Come join our class and explore Ancient Egypt!  Many students have little prior knowledge of Ancient Egypt.  This interactive overview is a perfect introduction to this civilization.

In this class, Mrs. Rebecca will facilitate rich discussions with your child about a society they have never experienced.  We will explore the history of Ancient Egypt through examining geography, religion, and society!   Students will leave this lesson with a small taste of how differently their lives would have been, had they lived in this region 2,000 years ago. Throughout this Powerpoint, students will be presented with information, along with some questions to help them develop personal connections about the civilization.   Students will be encouraged, but not required, to read texts, answer questions, and participate in discussion.

Covered topics are as follows:

  • evaluating a map of upper and lower Egypt and comparing it with today’s map
  • overview of city-states
  • hardships of desert living
  • feudal system
  • canopic jars
  • mummies
  • religion
  • Queen Hapshepsut
  • Ramses the Great
  • King Tut
  • hieroglyphics

This class is recommended for kids in grades 4-8

Instructor

Rebecca FosterMrs. Rebecca loves the quote, “Teaching isn’t my job. It’s my passion.” She has had this passion from the beginning. Her teddy bears learned a lot, with her bedroom-sized chalkboard and old textbooks from her mom’s elementary classroom. It was no surprise to anyone when she sought and gained her Interdisciplinary Studies (K-8) degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2001. That fall, she began her teaching career in a self-contained 6th grade classroom. Since then, she has taught all core subject areas in grades 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in Rutherford County Schools. As a dedicated public school teacher, she spent countless hours planning lessons, creating materials, researching for best practices, collaborating with co-workers, and combing through student data. Her students consistently showed academic growth on state testing. She has spent the last 2 years teaching students from China online and in-person at a homeschool tutorial. She is excited to join the team of outstanding educators at Fusion Online Academy.
