Join our club to help find your voice as an author! As a classroom teacher in public schools, Mrs. Rebecca has helped many students develop their writing through Writing Workshop over the years. Writing Workshop is a student-centered framework for teaching writing that is based on the idea that students learn to write best when they write frequently, for extended periods of time, and on topics of their own choosing. Each class will begin with a brief whole-group mini-lesson to teach a focus skill of the week. Focus skills will be based on the needs of the students, and students will be encouraged to use these skills in their writing. We will spend a good deal of the remainder of class in Writer’s Workshop. Whether it’s a short story or an assignment for another class, students will bring any piece they are working on. Mrs. Rebecca will also have writing prompts on-hand for students who are “stuck” without a topic. We will spend time interacting with one another and Mrs. Rebecca (one-on-one and in small groups) while going through the 5 steps of the writing process. Students will be encouraged to read their pieces to the class that are both in-progress and completed. This class will not only help students become more proficient authors, but it will also help students learn how to give/receive constructive feedback to/from others.
Individual classes every Friday at 9:30am. Come once, or come every week

Instructor
Rebecca FosterMrs. Rebecca loves the quote, “Teaching isn’t my job. It’s my passion.” She has had this passion from the beginning. Her teddy bears learned a lot, with her bedroom-sized chalkboard and old textbooks from her mom’s elementary classroom. It was no surprise to anyone when she sought and gained her Interdisciplinary Studies (K-8) degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2001. That fall, she began her teaching career in a self-contained 6th grade classroom. Since then, she has taught all core subject areas in grades 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in Rutherford County Schools. As a dedicated public school teacher, she spent countless hours planning lessons, creating materials, researching for best practices, collaborating with co-workers, and combing through student data. Her students consistently showed academic growth on state testing. She has spent the last 2 years teaching students from China online and in-person at a homeschool tutorial. She is excited to join the team of outstanding educators at Fusion Online Academy.
